Oh for crying-out-loud. Sometimes I just wanna smack people senseless with
their own stupidity: [...] In an art installation sure to launch a thousand UFO conspiracies,
Montreal artist Cesar Saez plans to send a 1,000-foot helium blimp in the
shape of a banana into low Earth orbit over the Lone Star State. If everything goes right, the fruity dirigible, known as the Geostationary
Banana Over Texas, should launch in August 2008. The astrofruit is an artistic commentary on the absurdity of American
politics -- especially Texan-style kookiness, says Saez. "I see Texas like a crossroads of important social and cultural happenings
in the states and in the world," he says.

Yes, yes, thank you for an "honor" that is derived from stereotypes and
achieved by producing visual pollution for us astronomy types. Texas *has* some
of those ya know. (*sigh* George W. Bush has done more damage to the image of
this state and it's diverse people than film and television stereotypes managed
to do over many decades.) P.S. Maybe I just need a powerful enough green laser. Then I can do the
"typically Texan" thing and just shoot the sucker down. P.P.S. Or we could have a party. Everyone has to dress in yellow. We'll have
bananas, banana splits, bananas foster, banana shakes. And we'll drag out our
telescope to look at the Giant Space Banana. P.P.P.S. Y'all realize that it's entirely likely this whole thing is one
elaborate "hoax", in that it'll never actually happen.
