We're back home today, after a week-long vacation attending the 2008 Las Vegas
Star Trek Convention. This was the first time we'd ever been to a convention
like this, and the first time I'd ever bothered to get autographs. We had a
blast, and I've blogged the whole durn thing:Day One - August

Whatever possessed us to attend a Star Trek convention?
Well, we're both fans, obviously. In fact, I'd just seen the last television
incarnation of Star Trek, "Enterprise" this past Spring on HDNet. (So lovely in
high definition!) I hadn't seen it when it aired on UPN from 2001-2005 because
even standing on one leg, waving a dead chicken and making offerings to Cthulhu
wouldn't have helped me receive UPN as anything more than television snow in my
apartment at the time, and I was too poor for cable. But when I got a chnace to
watch it, I was hooked. (And heartbroken when I found that it had been canceled
after only four seasons. Dangit.)
We were also looking for a nice vacation. I'd wanted to drag my sweetie to see
the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas since 1999, when I had a chance to see it
while visiting a friend who lives out there. I kept thinking we could just get
a cheap flight to Vegas for a Star Trek weekend.
We'd also missed out on really celebrating our 5th anniversary this year
(except for a nice dinner and wedding cake) because of school, work and
illness. Once everything calmed down again we wanted to do something fun.
And finally, I just really needed to do something like this after
surviving two years of graduate school while working full-time in a
stressful job. I was wiped out and needed something to energize me.
Given all that, when I discovered that Creation's annual Star Trek convention
was held in Las Vegas at the home of the Star Trek Experience, the Las Vegas
Hilton, we just had to go. We're so glad we did.
