The U.S. Geological Survey, Earthquake Hazards Program has a cool real-time map of
earthquakes in California. You can report a quake as well. There are
also real-time maps of quakes around the U.S. and around the world.

Mobs: A team of researchers has succeeded in developing the
first true, three-dimensional holographic movie. At the moment, this
is meant to have to have medical and military applications, but there's
already speculations on other uses. We're a long way from Star Trek-like
holodecks, but still... nifty.
