We finally found a place to have our outdoor wedding! The Umlauf Sculpture
Gardens has just what we were looking for. It's small enough for us to
hold a wedding of only 12 people and not feel swallowed up. It'll be
private in the evening for the event. There's two backup places in case of
inclement weather. It's very romantic in the Spring with the wonderful
plantings and sculptures. And it's not too expensive. So, we're *finally* ready to set some things in stone!
This Sunday is the Bridal shower, and it's being organized by some
friend's of Jeff's family. In case anyone is interested, we're registered
under my name at: Bed Bath and
Beyond, Williams-Sonoma,
Pottery Barn, and Amazon.com.
We close on the house April 18th, and spend most of the rest of April
painting, sanding, cleaning, installing flooring and some appliances. Oh,
and then I take my final exams!
After my finals, I'm going to head to Houston and I and my sister (and
probably my soon-to-be-sister-in-law) will go and get Mehndi done on our
hands. We'll pick up Indian sweets for the reception, and then head back
to San Marcos.
Monday, May 5th will be the wedding - immediate family only - at the
Umlauf Sculpture Gardens. A friend of mine will do the photography if her
nasty boss will let her off that day. We'll have a small catered dinner
there at the gardens. We're still working on the actual ceremony, but a JP
will preside.
The next day will be the reception in San Marcos. One of the women I work
with does wedding, quinceanera and other special event cakes, so I'm going
to have her do the wedding cake. (Italian cream, with cream cheese
frosting in a basket weave. Two layers. With fake flowers - Texas
wildflowers - and those Hobby Lobby feather "butterflies" on it.)
There'll be food, desserts and music, lots of flower decorations and
probably about 60 to 70 people. (Maybe live music if I can hire a student
group from the University.)
And that's it! With the house stuff we've decided NOT to go on
vacation to Victoria, Canada right afterward. (We'll be moving into the
new house instead and I don't have that much vacation time.) We will be
goign back to Victoria/Vancouver, but either later in the summer, or then
at the same time next Spring.
Whew. Now that we've moved from one building to anotehr at work, I'm ready
to get cracking with the rest of this planning and "to do" list.
